Shimshal- Manglik Sar 6050M Expeditions
Manglik Sar, also spelled Minglik Sar / Mingling Sar, is a 6,050 m (19,849 ft) trekking peak in the remote Shimshal Valley of Upper Hunza. It is generally regarded as a relatively accessible 6,000-metre objective, with the normal route involving glacier travel and snow slopes of approximately 30–35°.
The final ascent is a serious high-altitude undertaking rather than an ordinary trek. The route generally involves snow/glacier travel, crampons, ice axe and rope techniques, followed by a long summit push. On clear days, climbers can enjoy exceptional views across the Karakoram and toward major peaks including K2 and Broad Peak.
Highlights
- An Accessible Gateway to 6,000m Peak Climbing: Manglik Sar is widely celebrated as one of the most achievable and beginner-friendly 6,000-meter trekking peaks in the Karakoram. While it requires proper physical endurance and basic snow gear (crampons and ice axes), it features a non-technical, moderate snow slope ascent that makes it an ideal stepping stone for aspiring high-altitude mountaineers.
- The Dramatic Shimshal Valley Approach Trek: The journey to the base camp cuts through the remote and rugged Shimshal Valley—the highest settlement in the Hunza region. The trek takes adventurers through dramatic narrow gorges, suspension bridges, and traditional summer pastures where local Wakhi yak herders graze their livestock.
- The Historic Shimshal Pass & Alpine Lakes: The route passes near the legendary historical Shimshal Pass (~4,735m)—an ancient trading and raiding route flanked by pristine high-altitude turquoise lakes like those at Gulchi Washk. This high Pamir-Karakoram transition zone offers an unmatched blend of raw wilderness and rich mountain culture.
