Yasin Punji Pass Trek

The Punji Pass Trek is an exciting high-altitude journey located in the Hindu Kush region of northern Pakistan. It offers breathtaking landscapes and provides an in-depth exploration of the natural beauty of Yasin Valley. The trek connects Darkot, situated at the head of Yasin Valley, to Ghotulti in Iskhoman.

The pass is named after a distinctive cairn, known as “punji” in Burushaski, which is located 2.25 kilometers west and 350 meters below the pass. This cairn marks the highest possible campsite on the west side of the pass. Locally, the pass is also referred to as Iskhoman Haghost by the villagers of Darkot and is occasionally called the Iskhoman Pass, similar to the nearby Asumbar Haghost to the south.

This trek is often undertaken after completing the Asumbar Haghost trek. It traverses the Hindu Raj Range through pristine traditional valleys, showcasing spring-fed meadows and stunning alpine vistas. The route includes a relatively straightforward pass and presents opportunities for climbs and first ascents. The trek is rated as Moderate to Difficult and involves steep climbs, glacier crossings, and narrow trails with scree. The pass itself is situated over 4,000 meters (approximately 13,000 feet) above sea level.

The optimal time for trekking in this region is from late June to early September when weather conditions are most favorable.
