Shispare Peak Expedition

Shishpare Peak is a prominent mountain located in the Passu region of the Hunza Valley in northern Pakistan, part of the Karakoram Range. It is situated near the villages of Passu and Karimabad in the Gilgit-Baltistan region and belongs to the Batura Muztagh subrange of the Karakoram. Standing at a height of 7,611 meters (24,970 feet) above sea level, Shishpare is known for its dramatic, steep slopes and rugged topography, making it one of the most challenging peaks to climb in the Karakoram.

The peak was first successfully climbed in 1974 by a Polish expedition led by Andrzej Zawada. The ascent requires technical rock climbing and glacier traverses, making it suitable only for experienced climbers. Shishpare is surrounded by other notable peaks, such as Passu Sar (7,478 meters) and Ultar Sar (7,388 meters). Nearby, the Passu Glacier and Batura Glacier enhance the breathtaking views and provide excellent trekking opportunities.

The peak offers panoramic views of the Karakoram range, making it a visual delight for adventurers and photographers. Shishpare is a popular destination for trekkers exploring the Hunza Valley and is part of the broader Passu Cones landscape, known for its jagged peaks and picturesque scenery. Access to the region is via the Karakoram Highway, with Passu village serving as a gateway to the mountain.
