Pumari Chhish Expedition

Pumari Chhish is an impressive and challenging mountain located in the Hispar Muztagh subrange of the Karakoram in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan. It is renowned for its technical difficulty, remote location, and stunning glaciers that surround it. Pumari Chhish attracts elite climbers due to its challenging routes and pristine, unspoiled beauty.

The mountain stands at approximately 7,492 meters (24,580 feet), although some sources report slightly different figures. It had its first ascent in 1979 by a Japanese team via a demanding route, marking a significant achievement in mountaineering. Pumari Chhish is situated near other prominent Karakoram peaks, including Kunyang Chhish, Trivor, and Distaghil Sar.

Pumari Chhish is considered one of the most technically demanding peaks in the Karakoram Range. Its steep, icy faces and knife-edge ridges pose additional challenges due to the harsh weather conditions typical of high-altitude Karakoram mountains. The mountain has seen relatively few ascents and has a reputation for difficulty akin to that of other remote Karakoram peaks, such as Baintha Brakk (the Ogre).

Climbing Pumari Chhish requires substantial preparation, logistics, and acclimatization due to its remoteness and technical nature. Its glaciers, complex ridges, and steep cliffs make it a serious undertaking even for the most seasoned climbers.
