Dastaghil Sar Expedition

Distaghil Sar, sometimes spelled “Dastaghil Sar,” is one of the tallest peaks in the Karakoram range in northern Pakistan, standing at an impressive 7,885 meters (25,869 feet). Located in the Hispar Muztagh subrange within Gilgit-Baltistan, it ranks as the 19th-highest peak globally and the 7th-highest in Pakistan. It is located in the Hispar-Muztagh Karakorum Range Gilgit-Baltistan with an elevation: of 7,885 meters (25,869 feet). First Ascent achieved in 1960 by an Austrian expedition led by Günther Stärker. The peak has multiple summits, with the main summit being the
highest.
Distaghil Sar is known for its challenging conditions and steep terrain. The first successful ascent was made from the southwest ridge, which remains one of the most accessible routes. However, the climb requires technical skill due to the icy ridges and the potential for avalanches. The mountain’s name, meaning “above the homeland” in the local language, reflects its majestic and imposing presence. Its slopes are heavily glaciated, with massive ice faces and ridges that create a dramatic and rugged landscape typical of the Karakoram. The views from the peak are stunning, with panoramic sights of nearby peaks and glaciers. Distaghil Sar is a significant, albeit remote, destination for mountaineers and is less
climbed than other high peaks in the Karakoram due to its isolation and the technical challenges it presents.
