In 1986, a trekking route was established that connects the Baltoro Glacier to Hushe Valley over a Pass called GONDOGORO LA 5700M. Since, this challenging Pass has been attracting large number of the trekking groups as well as numerous climbing expeditions. However, the popularity of this trek is also an accurate reflection of its attractions. This is along the BRALDU River then into Baltoro Glacier is a long and extremely demanding one. This route follows mainly on the Baltoro Glacier, which is 65km long. The climax of the Baltoro Glacier is the beautiful conjunction of the Godwin Austin Glacier, which descends from K-2 and Baltoro Glacier called “CONCORDIA 4700M” lying in the heart of the most heavily glaciated region outside the Polar area and densest concentration of high peaks on earth.
CONCORDIA is the apex of this trek and viewpoint of several peaks. If you would like to go the Base Camp of mount K-2, to pay homage the climbers who have given their lives to climb the K-2 and left their signs of names on the cemetery, is called K-2 Memorial Cemetery. It is recommended to make the excursion from Concordia. The K-2 South West face is more visible from here, which is only once climbed. The panoramic view of K-2 from the Concordia is like Mount Everest from Kala Patar.
The reward as the other hand is spectacular, taking you right into the heart of Karakorum Mountains at Concordia to K-2 Base Camp then on Vigne Glacier to the foot of Gondogoro Pass. After the crossing there is High Camp then to the Dalzampa, a beautiful place for camping with water and meadows, then on Gondoghoro Glacier to the Satchio and finally to the Hushe Valley.
Weather and group fitness permitting, you will cross the snow bound of the Gondoghoro Pass. This is very exciting trek from Concordia to cross the Pass then to Hushe Valley is one of our finest high altitude and challenging treks. On the top of the Pass, it offers beautiful view of the K-2 (8611 m), Broad Peak (8048m), Choglisa (7660m), and upper Baltoro region, Laila Peak, Bassu Peak, and Manzil Peak etc. Mostly all above 7000M high peaks of Shigar and Hushe Valley. The north side is 45 degrees snow slop and south is also continuous 45 degrees slop where rope must be fixed. This high technical pass requires good physical fitness, judgment prior acclimatization and basic mountaineering skill for all the members of trekking party..
DIFFICULTY LEVEL:As this trip is in grade Challenging, have cross streams/rivers and travel on glaciers. It requires a good physical fitness and some previous trekking/ basic mountaineering experience (to use crampons, ice axe and rope etc.). During the trip have walk around 3-7 hrs on well-beaten trails, including short rests and lunch. But the day to cross Gondoghoro La requires around 8-10 hrs (have to start early in the morning about 2:00 am) according to the weather as Gondoghoro La can be done and worth full only during a good/clear weather). The important thing it requires patience to overcome the hard time (in case of bad weather, miner health problems and unforeseen circumstance).
