Kashgar is one of the historical cities in China. There are several tribes or dynasties with various cultures and traditions. It is changing too rapidly now, having big avenues and tall buildings but still offers many interesting scenes and sights and its unique blend of old and new ways of life and traditions. The ancient “Silk Road” was lying buried in the history, mystery legends in some of the unbelievable terrible tales of past. It is possible to travel to legendary city of Kashgar-China via Karakoram Highway (KKH) which is constructed on the foot of old Silk Road. The Karakorum Highway connects the legendary Silk Road cities of China with the capital of the Pakistan- Islamabad via Khunjerab Pass 4733M through the beautiful Valley of Hunza-Nagar, Gilgit in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. The whole the region is a wonderful complex of various natural elements mixed together to form a wonderland.
The border with China, Khunjerab Pass was formally declared open on 1st May, 1986 and Pirali was declared as an entering point in China and now shifted to Tashkurgan and Sost pot is entry in Pakistan and from few years it is declared to be open the border on 1st April. The zero point is located at the Khunjerab Pass 4733 M, which is 86 km from Sost. Tashkurgan is the first town of the Chinese side that is located right at the Silk Road at about elevation 3050 M from the sea level, here remains 9th month winter and 3 months summer. This town is also becoming modern town, have big buildings and wide roads. Kashgar is around 280 km from Tashkurgan.
